This morning I walked and took two trains to get into downtown Chicago. It was quite doable, and cut my carbon footprint way down.
More to the point: this afternoon I’m leading a workshop about higher education and AI at the annual EDUCAUSE conference in Chicago. I hope to cover a lot of ground in a few hours. Here’s how I described the session:
Recent developments in AI are already having multiple impacts on higher education, from changing the labor market for students' careers to rebooting writing assignments, textbook publishing to scholarly research. This research-backed, very interactive session uses a futurist approach to forecast the next several years of AI-driven uncertainty.
60+ people signed up for the event before it sold out.
I want the session to be as interactive as possible, so I’m going to be polling the crowd, having them try some AI exercises, and break into groups to explore some key questions. I’ve also set up a shared Google Doc as a backchannel, seeded with a rough outline for the day; please do ride along and comment if you like.
I’ve put together a large Google Slides show to anchor the workshop. You can find it at Slideshare. and right here.
Right now I have high hopes for the event. I expect some good discussion and perhaps controversy. Most of all I hope we can take the audience forward and give them some foresightful boost for their institutions.
Hi Bryan
60 Minutes primed the pump for today's seminar with their alarmist AI segment last night.
Best of luck today! If I was in Chicago, I'd be looking for the oldest steakhouse in town. Do they have vegan restaurants? ;-)
