For the past several months I’ve been working out the future implications of generative AI on this Substack. Tomorrow I’d like to go a bit further.
From 2-3 pm EDT Brent Anders and I will lead an experimental Future Trends Forum session. It will be a kind of simulation slash workshop. We will present a scenario depicting a potential next wave of artificial intelligence, taking place in 2024. Participants will role play different academics to collectively imagine how higher education can respond.
Practically, this will happen in three parts:
Brent and I introduce the scenario. Participants react altogether, then in small groups, then report back to the whole.
Brent and I develop the scenario further, taking it ahead in time a few months, adding complications, implications, etc. Participants respond to all that as in #1.
We all debrief, comparing notes, trying to apply what we’ve learned.
What is the scenario about? Ah, for now we’re only saying it’s about a next form of AI. You’ll have to join us on Thursday to find out.
This is an experimental Forum session, as I said. We have done some workshops before, but not a scenario exercise. Recently we did a collaborative design program, which came close to this, as it included responses to a near-future prompt.
Please do join us for experimentation, exploration, and futuring!
